Meridia

Meridia (sibutramine) is a remedy prescribed for people that suffer from obesity and that did not seem to benefit from other remedies they were prescribed. This drug is intended for cases of obesity that has been caused by a number of health factors, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. When you ask your doctor for a prescription, you will first have to be examined very carefully to make sure taking Meridia is going to be safe for you and you will benefit from the treatment. The first thing to discuss is a possibility of an allergic reaction. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to any components of Meridia – the same is most likely to happen again. Therefore, if you have a history of such a reaction, taking Meridia is not an option for you, as you will not be ale to enjoy safe and efficient treatment. The following health conditions are also supposed to be reported, as they can affect the dose you are prescribed and whether some additional tests will be required: high blood pressure, glaucoma, a history of a stroke, underactive thyroid, liver or kidney disease, a bleeding disorder, heart disease, seizures, a history of heart attack, depression, or gallstones. Any other health conditions you have that need to be reported should be also mentioned. In general, Meridia is taken for several months or longer, but not more than 2 years in a row. If you take this drug in higher doses than prescribed, this is not going to make your treatment more effective, which is why you are recommended to follow the instructions of your doctor and take as much as needed to reduce food cravings and eat less without feeling miserable. Some drugs you are taking at the moment may theoretically interfere with the efficiency of Meridia, and should be therefore reported to your doctor. You may still be ale to take them, but your dose may need to be adjusted to prevent interference. The following medicines have been reported to cause some interactions: migraine headache medicines, narcotic pain medicines and antidepressants. Unless your doctor prescribed otherwise, this medication is supposed to be taken once a day, with some food or without. Make sure you take Meridia regular and do not miss doses. If you happened to miss a dose – take it as soon as you remember unless you will have to take the next one soon. In that case just skip the dose missed and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Some mild side effects are possible if you are taking Meridia. These may include back pain, upset stomach, runny or stuffy nose, mild skin rash, loss of appetite, dry mouth, headache, constipation, and trouble sleeping. More serious side effects are also possible, such as sweating, weakness, joint pain, blurred vision, easy bruising, severe headache, seizure, chest pain, agitation, high blood pressure, confusion, and some other ones. Tell your doctor if you did not lose weight during the first month of the treatment. You must lose at least 4 pounds during this period, and if you didn’t – this means the drug is not working properly for you.
